Born in Suzzara, south of Mantua, in 1893, Vasco Pecchini became passionate about instrument making as a young man. This always remained for him a secondary activity with respect to his main profession as a carpenter. It is not known with certainty with whom he trained, although he must have been largely self-taught. Like many makers in this area, some writers claim a possible frequentation of Stefano Scarampella's workshop, but a deeper influence of local luthiers such as Amedeo Simonazzi and the Guastalla brothers is more likely. He also seems to have had relations with the Arassi firm in Milan, for which he possibly made some instruments.
His style mixes features of the Mantuan school such as the choice of body and F-holes models with others that are more typical of the Emilian tradition, such as the carving of the scrolls and the treatment of the edges.
