Lorenzini, Gaspare

Born in Piacenza in 1724 into a family of woodworkers, Gaspare Lorenzini began to make instruments from the mid-eighteenth century, perhaps alongside an occupation as a musician. Contacts with Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, or with his father Lorenzo, if he was ever active in the same field, are probable but not proven. In Piacenza the two families lived in close proximity and belonged to the same guild of carpenters.

The extreme rarity of his works with original labels makes it difficult to define his style, given that instruments attributed to this maker are often not very consistent: some very close to the style of Guadagnini during his Piacenza period, and others more personal. He practiced the profession until the early nineteenth century and died in Piacenza in 1811.
