Born in the Republic of San Marino in 1926, Mario Capicchioni began assisting his father Marino during the Second World War, encouraged by the growing fame that the latter was gaining, especially from the 1950s onwards. His contribution became increasingly significant over the years, so much so that in 1970 Marino decided to create a joint label for the instruments they made together. However, Mario had already started producing his own instruments while his father was still alive, naturally sharing his models, style and making techniques.
Mario's hand can be recognised in the slightly more massive and less refined heads, in the work on the edges and corners, which are wider and more squarish. The finishing techniques also followed in his father's footsteps, with a prevalence of red varnishes. Like his father, Mario still enjoys an excellent reputation for the sound of his instruments, particularly his violas and cellos.
