Bissolotti, Francesco

Born in Soresina in 1929, Bissolotti began studying the violin and then moved to Cremona in 1957 to attend the city's violin making School, initially under the guidance of Peter Tatar. After the arrival of Pietro Sgarabotto to cover the role of main teacher in 1958, Bissolotti was able to gain a deeper understanding of classical violin making and its rediscovery which took place during the twentieth century; at the School, he later also had the opportunity to study with Giuseppe Ornati and Ferdinando Garimberti, who held regular courses there during the 1960s. The deepest influence on Bissolotti's training, however, came through the acquaintance of Simone Fernando Sacconi who, starting from 1962 and for about the following ten years, spent most of his summer vacations in Cremona. During the same period Bissolotti assisted Sacconi in the cataloging and reordering of the Stradivari relics, which would also bring to the release of his fundamental text "The secrets of Stradivari".

Bissolotti in turn became a teacher at the Cremona School, and trained a large group of apprentices, in addition to his four sons Marco Vinicio, Maurizio, Vincenzo and Tiziano. He had a large and internationally appreciated production and he died in Cremona at the age of ninety.
