The first of the two violin maker sons of Carlo Giuseppe Testore, Paolo Antonio is the last luthier of the family, born around 1690 and active until the 1760s.
His work has a rather discontinuous quality and often gives the impression of favoring the acoustic functionality rather than the refinement of the workmanship: the materials are simple, his maples often without any figure; the purfling on the backs was frequently just scratched and filled with black stucco; the back of his peg-boxes was left flat and unfluted. As for his father, Paolo Antonio Testore's cellos are particularly appreciated; their short model is characteristic, with a very broad central part; the F-holes follow a flexuous pattern and have a very wide positioning; the volute has the oval and oblique flattening characteristic of the Testore family.
