Lanaro, Luigi

Born in Vicenza in 1920, Luigi Lanaro first trained as a violinist, and at the same time he took an interest in scientific subjects, in particular physics. He later met with Gaetano Sgarabotto and Giuseppe Pedrazzini, even if his style does not recall that of the older masters but is rather personal.

The model is large and rounded, with a flat arching; the peg box has a straight shape, with a short, curved throat; the F-holes are based on an Amatisé model: the upper and lower eyes are slightly widened on the sides and have minute notches. He used dark locating pins and his varnishes often show a good depth. He spent long periods abroad: in Argentina from 1949, and then several decades in Mexico city, also contributing to the foundation of the local violin making school.
