Deconet, Michele

Born in 1713 in Kehl, near Strasbourg, after serving in the army Deconet arrived in Venice in 1732 and became active as a musician and luthier, although he was never enrolled in the city guild. He was perhaps also a merchant of instruments made by other makers of the area, although his individual style remains to some extent recognizable.

His model is typically Venetian, with a rather narrow central part which is also reflected in a close positioning of the F-holes; the pattern of these is characteristic, in the sense that, while the curve at the upper eye is narrow, the lower part of the F-holes has a noticeably wider curve. Additionally, often the scrolls have a peculiar treatment of the final part of the eye, an area in which the bevel thickens and becomes less regular. The varnish, especially during his early period, is typically Venetian, with an intense red color and a thick, rich texture.
