A violin maker whose biographical details are little known, Giuseppe Cavaleri was active in Genoa around the 1730s and 1740s. He does not seem to have had any particular connections with Bernardo Calcagno or with the Genoese luthiers who followed him, such as Paolo Castello.
The rarity of Cavaleri's instruments makes it difficult to define his style, which nevertheless falls within the varied panorama of 18th-century Italian luthiery.
