Castello, Paolo

Genoese maker influenced by Bernardo Calcagno, active in the second half of the eighteenth century but whose dates of birth and death remain unknown.

His instruments are made expeditiously on a rather wide model; the edge is flat, the purfling is large and ends very close to the corner tips. The F-holes are positioned low on the top, have wide stems, especially in the upper part and in the section that leads to the lower and upper eyes. The most personal part is the scroll: the peg-box has a belly shifted downwards and the throat is very short; the volute is small, with a short last turn and a rounded eye.
