Born in Mantua in 1882, Remo Solferini was more active as a violinist than as a luthier, and it is unclear how he learned the basics of instrument making. Although we cannot rule out contacts with Stefano Scarampella or Gaetano Gadda, Solferini's work also shows a Ferrara influence.
The internal construction features a linings overlapping the corner blocks, while stylistically his instruments combine elements from both cities, with a typically Mantuan model for the sound holes and a treatment of the edges, corners and scroll closer to the Emilian school. Solferini moved to Verona in 1940 and spent the last years of his life in Milan.
