Antonio Pelizon was born in 1763 in Rubbia, now part of the Slovenian territory but at that time a village in the orbit of the town of Gorizia. Once he settled in the main city, we find him as a member of the carpenters' guild, an activity that he probably carried out together with the making and repairing of musical instruments. He had a very large family, and four of his sons succeeded him in the business: Giuseppe Francesco, Antonio II, Carlo and Filippo.
Antonio I was the most productive maker in the family and, being self-taught, his style is very personal. His violins are small in size and made on a narrow pattern, with long, open C-bouts. The corners are also long, small and bent to the outside; the purfling has a prominent black. The pattern for his sound holes is elongated and with rather large eyes; the peg box opens towards the throat and is surmounted by a small concentric volute.
