Degani, Giulio

Son of the violin maker Eugenio Degani, Giulio was born in Montagnana in 1875 and later moved to Venice working side by side with his father until his death in 1901. His instruments of the Venetian period are naturally very similar to the style learned from his predecessor, taking up the models and the varnish. Giulio later also adopted more individual choices, for instance by shortening his models, using a redder varnish of thinner consistency, and alternating the peculiar carving of the side of the peg-box learned from his father with a more traditional shape.

In 1915 Giulio Degani moved to the United States, first working for the Wurlitzer firm in New York and Cincinnati, then independently, and also working is fields other than lutherie, which he would definitively abandon in the early 1950s.
