Chappuy, Augustin

Born in Mirecourt around 1730, Nicolas Augustin Chappuy moved to Paris around 1750, and he returned to his hometown twenty years later.

He had a conspicuous production of instruments: the violins are large in size, especially in the central part, with a flat arching and F-holes spaced apart; the corners are short but protruding outwards; the peg-box belly is usually shifted downwards and the throat is quite shallow; the eye ends with a comma incised with a gouge. In addition to the label, they often carry a brand in the upper part of the back.
