Schwarz, Giovanni

Born in 1865 and nephew of Eugenio Degani, Giovanni Schwarz became a pupil of his uncle in Montagnana, and he later followed him in his relocation to Venice in 1888.

His style is therefore very close to that of his ancestor, without reflecting his extreme originality in every detail. His violin models are of large proportions, with rounded and open C-bouts; the corners are small and delicate, the purfling well-inlaid close to a carefully rounded edge; the F-holes have a tilted positioning. The head is very well-balanced, with a small chamfer and a rounded eye; the varnish of good texture and often amber in color.
