Armando Piccagliani was born in Modena in 1879. His production as a violin maker was quite significative, and he also obtained some prizes, although his work is not very well known today.
His style is typical of Emilia Romagna, and shows some similarities with the production of the members of the Carletti and Sgarbi families. The edges are generally rounded and the corners are small, with a rather prominent white strip of the purfling; the volutes are quite wide and end with a rounded eye. The son Antonio continued his father's activity.
