Stelluto, Lorenzo

Born in 1886 in Vico del Gargano, Stelluto arrived in Mantua after the end of the First World War, during which he had served as an army officer, eventually becoming a secretary of prefecture. Around 1923 he came into contact with the then elderly Stefano Scarampella and in particular with his assistant Gaetano Gadda, for whom he also assumed the role of witness on the occasion of the notary agreement between the two. Stelluto returned to Puglia after the Second World War and there he dealt with lutherie more occasionally, although he continued to carry out some repairs.

The work of Lorenzo Stelluto has some similarities with that of Gaetano Gadda, in particular for the model of the scroll, in which the eye is strongly off-centered towards the back and softened with abrasives; the edge is noticeably rounded towards the narrow fluting and recalls the period during which Gadda was influenced by the Ferrara school.
