Born in 1943, Giampaolo Savini was primarily active as a violinist and came into contact with the famous Ansaldo Poggi in the final part of the Bolognese master's life. Alongside Gian Carlo Guicciardi, Poggi's main pupil, and the Modenese Neldo Ferrari, Savini can be considered a follower of this peculiar Bolognese tradition, although he always lived in Rome.
The style of his work faithfully follows what he learned from his master, both in the models, in the style and in the making techniques, while being recognizable in the peculiar treatment of some details, such as the finish of the scroll eye, the button and the cutting of the sound-holes.
