Gadda, Mario

Born in 1931, he was the son and successor of Gaetano Gadda, whose business he inherited on his death. Only initially did he continue in the style he learned, and later, while still specializing in making Mantuan-style instruments, he began a conspicuous production of copies, especially of Stefano Scarampella, and of many other Italian twentieth-century makers as well, including his own father. He was assisted by a large group of pupils trained by him and students from the Cremona school of violin making who worked for him. The dealing in historical instruments was also very intense, especially with foreign countries.
