Fracassi, Arturo

Born near Forlì in 1899, he was a pupil of Carlo Biondi but later he was also influenced by other makers of his area, in particular Marino Capicchioni, Nicola Utili and Gaetano Pollastri. In this way he developed his own personal style, quite typical for the Emilia Romagna tradition of the first half of the twentieth century.

The rounded model is inspired by Amati and Stradivari, and the details of the workmanship are carefully softened to avoid any rigidity. The corners are small and elegant, the purfling thin and well-executed and the fluting of the plates is quite narrow. The peg box is rather straight; the volute and the eye small and rounded. The F-holes often have a tilted positioning and very sharp notches.
