Calvarola, Bartolomeo

Interesting luthier born in Torre Boldone and active in Bergamo between 1750 and 1770, whose training and several biographical details are still unknown.

His style is extremely original, with a slender model and rather minute corners; the F-holes, usually based on a pattern derived from Jacobus Stainer, have an angled positioning. The shape of the peg box, which is also slender, in some ways recalls that of gambas, with a throat that ends suddenly, and the volute that terminates in the lower part of the eye. The front and rear views of the scroll are also very thin. Usually the materials are carefully chosen and the varnish of fine quality.
