Born in 1914 in Romagna near Bagnacavallo, Sante Allegri began making instruments as a self-taught maker in the 1950s, and he later received advice from luthiers active in this area such as Celso Franchi. In the following years he made over 80 instruments, including violins, violas, cellos and guitars. He died in Alfonsine, in the province of Ravenna, in 2003.
