Born in Parma on October 23rd 1976, Andrea Zanrè approaches violin-making at the age of 18. With a background as a classical guitar student, he attends the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria di Parma under the guidance of Renato Scrollavezza for four years and obtains his diploma in 1998.
Short after graduating his instruments start being well regarded in many countries of the world, and are now appreciated by renowned dealers, connoisseurs and many professional players.
In his work Andrea strives to blend the originality of conception of each single instrument with a consistent level of fresh craftsmanship; for this reason he takes care of every detail of the instrument: from the choice of wood, models, stylistic features to the transparent oil varnish of various amber shades and the refined fittings.
Tonally he aims at an exuberant quality of sound, thinking that the liveliness of the instrument should respond immediately in all the expressive ranges needed by a soloist, and for the same reason he pays a special attention to set-up and playability.
To attain this Andrea intensively researches every aspect related to violin making, studying classical instruments but also following an innovative and objective approach toward subjects such as varnish and acoustics. Andrea has participated to several violin making and repair workshops, including Hans Nebel’s restoration seminars at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, the Oberlin acoustics and violin making workshops and has assisted renowned makers and restorers in teaching at the Parma violin workshops.
Since 2002 Andrea Zanrè works with Elisa Scrollavezza at “Scrollavezza & Zanrè”, a studio devoted to the making of new instruments for international clients and professional players, and the dealing of fine instruments and their bows. Besides new making, Andrea also devotes himself to the making of replicas of classical instruments and restoration.
Andrea is actively involved in cultural projects related to violin making and music; since 2002 he has been appointed to teach at the Parma School of Violin Making.
He is a member of VSA and founder member of Liuteria Parmense. |
